Training course and mock trial
About The Event
Managing an HSE investigation

Accidents happen and in the event of a police or HSE investigation you or your staff may be asked to provide a statement or called to give evidence. This course aims to explain the process of a such an investigation and how best to manage it. A key part of the session will look at how steps taken by you during the investigation impact upon any subsequent criminal proceedings.
You may be aware of the £5 million pound fine that was imposed on Merlin Attractions following the accident at Alton Towers. Since the new sentencing guidelines implemented last year, very significant  fines are being imposed upon companies convicted of health and safety offences.
The course will cover:
•     Legal framework of investigations by the police, HSE, fire authorities, EA
      and others
•     Initial visits to site
•     Internal investigation reports
•     Requests for disclosure
•     Witness statements
•     Interviews under caution
•     Inquests
•     Criminal proceedings
There will be an interactive mock trial which will give you a unique opportunity to see how a criminal court works, how evidence is given and how witnesses are questioned.
