A Midlands Section event
About The Event
Innovation Showcase

The Midlands Section Innovation Showcase provides a great opportunity to network with colleagues from across the industry and to hear the latest innovations. Innovators are invited to enter the competition, where the winner will be recognised for their project, product or process.

As well as the selected innovation presentations attendees will have the opportunity to hear a keynote innovation presentation from a guest speaker.

Keynote speaker

Les Dawson OBE will provide the keynote speech entitled “Trouble maker better known as a disruptive innovator”.

Les has worked in management for 35 years for utility leaders: British Gas, Southern Water and Transco. In July 2005 Les was appointed CEO of Southern Water, the largest supplier of water and wastewater services in the South of England. In 2010 he became Chairman of J Murphy and Sons spending four years in the role until December 2014.

Les has Fellowships with The Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Managers and Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He is also a Past President of IGEM and Past President of Pipeline Industries Guild.

His presentation will review the innovations that he has implemented in the industry from being the author of the Network Code to the IT systems he delivered that enabled competition for over 19 million UK domestic customers.

The competition

Up to four entrants will be shortlisted to enter the awards on the night where they'll be tasked with presenting their work in just five minutes to the audience and a panel of expert judges. They will have an additional five minutes Q&A from the judging panel.

The expert judges will then choose the winner on the night.
