An IGEM best practice exchange
About The Event
Learning from other industries

IGEM is best known for its suite of technical standards that have been trusted by the gas industry for over 60 years. They document a wealth of engineering best practice in relation to the safe and efficient supply and use of gas.

We review, redraft and publish new iterations of these standards as our industry continues to discover new and improved ways of working and embraces new technologies, products and services. Which got us thinking, what could we learn from other industries?

Our counterparts from across the utilities sector each have a history of exploring and discovering the best, most efficient ways to deliver electricity, water, waste and telecommunications services to customers across the land. Which is why on Thursday 22nd March we’re bringing experts from each of these disparate industries together to find out what we can learn from each other.

Our keynote speaker is Mark Smith, Chief Executive Officer of WRc.  Established over 90 years ago, this innovative company quickly realised that the skills, knowledge and expertise it had gained supporting its customers from the water industry could be of value to those working with gas and waste management.

Today WRc benefits from a diverse portfolio of clients spread across multiple sectors, and we’re very pleased that Mark has agreed to share with us some of the insights that WRc has gained from working across sectors.

Joining Mark will be representatives from Thames Water, Western Power Distribution and Vodafone who’ll be discussing the power of collaboration, megatrends and their impact on utilities plus Big Data and its use.

We’ll be placing customers centre stage as speakers from Ovo Energy, BT, Wales & West Utilities and the Energy Systems Catapult explain their approach to achieving excellence in customer service, how they have enhanced the customer experience through the adoption of new technology what customers want from smart energy technology and the rise of the autonomous customer.

In addition to this jam packed programme of speakers delegates will also have the opportunity to see and test a range of the products and services, gadgets and gizmos that are helping to transform the utilities arena.

This really is an event not to be missed!
