“Engineering a Future for All – the power of education, research and innovation”
About The Event
Sir Denis Rooke Memorial Lecture 2018

IGEM’s first female President has invited the UK’s leading female engineer to mark this very special Sir Denis Rooke Memorial Lecture.

We are proud to announce that President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Professor Dame Ann Dowling, will deliver this year’s lecture, entitled “Engineering a Future for All – the power of education, research and innovation”.

Recognising the important contribution engineers make to our country and how we can inspire future generations to follow in our footsteps, Dame Ann’s lecture will examine the career opportunities that exist within our industry and how greater diversity and inclusion can help combat the skills crisis.

Dame Ann is Deputy Vice Chancellor and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Her specialist research area is efficient, low emission combustion for aero and industrial gas turbines and low noise vehicles.

She was appointed CBE for services to mechanical engineering in 2002, DBE for services to science in 2007 and was appointed to the Order of Merit by the Queen in December 2015.

Refreshments (tea/coffee and biscuits) will be served from 6.00pm. The lecture will start at 6.30pm and will be followed by a drinks and canapés reception.
